GEORGE E. SANFORD
         (my Father)
George E. Sanford (1922-  ) seen in the picture to the right is my father and an artist. The year is 1961. In this picture he is attending Austin Peay State University and  he is sculpting a large piece of granite.  For years he lugged that huge limestone sculpture from house to house...finally it was left behind for others to enjoy.

Dad was always a cartoonist, then a watercolorist.  He dabbed in oils for a while.  In any case he has always been an inspiration to me and my art.

Sanford was born in 1922 at Port Royal, Tennessee.  He married Alice Thomas  in 1942.  While he was in the marines (WWII) their twin daughters were born.  When he returned they had a son and in 1966 he and Alice adopted another daughter.

With only an 8th grade education, Sanford got his GED, then enrolled in Austin Peay State University and received his BA in Art in 1962.

He then attended and was graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Doctorate of Theology.  He is currently a Methodist minister in Florida .  Dad continues to draw and doodle at the coffee shop with his other retired friends.
